Google Analytics: Visits and Visitor Changes

Google Analytics recently announced a change that will affect web and mobile app users by combining into a single report.

Google Analytics Visitors Changes

Google Analytics recently announced a change that will affect web and mobile app users in the next couple of weeks. The goal of these changes is to make it easier to understand how users are interacting with your brand across all platforms (website, mobile apps, different devices, etc.) from one location.

What Has Changed

The latest changes by Google Analytics primarily include:

  • Combined Data: Web data and App Data are now in the same report. Previously they were set up in separate properties. This change will show all data in one location.
  • Name Change: The most noticeable change is the changing of names
    • Visits will now be called Sessions
    • Visitors will now be called Users

Who This Affects

If you have sent both web and app data to a single property within your Google Analytics account, you will start to see these changes in the coming week. If you do not send web and app data to one property, the data will remain the same.

What is the Difference between Web and App?

When you set up a new property in Analytics the first question is “What would you like to track?” Based on this selection you get slightly different options. Previously, Website and Mobile app were treated separately but now they are combined into a single view.
