Many site developers do not give a thought to accessibility to blind or visually impaired users when building sites for companies, and it is refreshing to find one that does. I express my deepest appreciation for this.

Shive-Hattery
www.shive-hattery.com
Shive Hattery is an architecture and engineering firm with seven offices throughout Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri. Informatics teamed with Shive Hattery to design and develop a new website which launched in October of 2011 (shive-hattery.com).
Shive Hattery required a new website to address the vast amount of information they need to provide to clients and customers as well as prominently display their architecture and engineering works. To solve these issues Informatics crafted a website that contained a mega menu–large dropdown navigation menus that display when hovered upon–and a full screen background image that dynamically displays vibrant images of Shive Hattery’s work.
Shive’s mega menu begins as four primary navigation points. These points link directly to pages when clicked upon, yet also produce large dropdown menus with a full ensemble of links to secondary page content. Links are organized into subcategories for easy navigation. Additionally, images and explanatory text are also utilized in the menus to create an intuitive user experience.
Shive-Hattery wanted their work to be front and center. Informatics recommended the use of full screen background images to achieve that goal. When a visitor arrives on the Shive Hattery website, a random background image is chosen from a database and displayed from edge to edge in the browser window. The image’s aspect ratio is maintained for any screen resolution, and the image dynamically reacts to maintain its clarity when the browser window is resized.
Additional site features include an interactive portfolio, image lightbox, contact form, and search functionality.
