1)      Typos

This is won of the biggest mistaks a writer can make. As soon as your reader sees a typo, your work becomes sloppy and that reflects negatively across your brand as a whole. Always write with the mindset that you are creating the blog for a prominent client that is very protective of their high-quality brand. Having other team members proofread each blog will provide ample room to avoid those simple typos/grammatical errors.

2)      No Visuals

If you are not incorporating images, you have already lost most of your audience. When a relevant image is paired with textual information, people retain 65% of that information three days later. Images may not always have to be essential to the information you share but they will definitely compliment the value of the content and hold your audience’s attention for a longer period. To take it a step further create infographics to help spread the main messages of your blog.

3)      No Call to Action

Any blog should prompt its reader to take action. Further your reader’s journey by giving them clear calls to action within your blog. This can range from a Contact Us link to customized buttons that click to eBooks.

4)      Rambling

One big misunderstanding about blogs is that the more content you have, the better the blog. Don’t write a novella because your readers will lose interest and fast. A general rule to follow when writing is to keep it around 500 words. This will give your readers a perfect window of time to retain all the information within your blog.

Another tip to keep in mind is that people love lists. Lists are an easy way to organize your key points. Even if a reader intends to simply skim your blog they can retain the main messages your blog is promoting.

5)      Click-Bait Titles

Give your audience an accurate title for what they are getting. Don’t bank on creating click-bait titles just to gain a few more clicks or views. In reality, your readers will quickly lose respect for your company. The content you write should be relevant and creative enough that you shouldn’t feel the need to create a catchy, yet off-base title.
